Getting To Know: The Ridge at Castle Pines North

An Insightful Interview With Michael Weingartner, Associate Golf Professional

By Brian Weis

Whether you have played a course 20+ times a year or looking to play the course for the first time, insights from an insider can help enhance your golf experience. Below is an interview with Michael Weingartner who shares some valuable tidbits about the course, memorable holes and must eats and treats at the 19th.

Give Our Readers An Overview of the Golf Course/Property
The Ridge at Castle Pines North is a par 71 layout designed by Tom Weiskopf. While the course offers generous fairways, the greens are challenging due to their undulation and fast speeds. The terrain is mountainous giving way to many elevation changes that need to be gauged.

If Someone Was Looking To Golf In The Area, Why Should They Play Your Course?
The Ridge is managed by Troon Golf. As a Troon Golf facility we strive to create extraordinary guest and member experiences by delivering superior service, amenities and playing surfaces.

What Tips or Local Knowledge Would You Provide To Help Them Score Better At Your Course?
Take at least 15-30 minutes on the practice putting green. Work on getting a good feel for the speed and break you'll need to play. Couple that with aiming to the center of the greens and you may save a few strokes at The Ridge.

Recent Awards or What You Are Most Proud About The Course?

#1 Front Range Course, "Best of Colorado Golf", by COLORADO AVID GOLFER

#1 "Top 10 Public Course in Colorado" by COLORADO GOLF

"Official Golf Course of the Colorado Avalanche"

What Is The Signature, Most Talked About, or Most Photographed Hole?
We are lucky enough to have a few great views out here however our 18th back tee box is a postage stamp perched on a rock that overlooks the 17th green. It offers great views and a daring tee shot.

What Is Your Favorite Hole? Any Tips to Play It?
Number 15 is a short par 4 with a creek in front of the green. It also has a 50 foot Ponderosa Pine in the middle of the fairway about 225yds out from the tee. The goal is positioning on this great short par 4. Play your tee sheet out to the right of the Ponderosa Pine for a clear look to the green. Taking too much club off the tee will leave a tough-to-control second shot to a deceivingly undulating green. Having a full shot on your second will give much needed control hitting into the green.

Must Have Dish or Drink after the round at the 19th Hole?
Our delicious nachos and a cold beer.
